Manchester City tightened their grip on the WSL title race in Gameweek 18, with just four league games left to play.
City’s 5–2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur was the standout result of the weekend, with Khadija Shaw’s 12-minute hat-trick — a WSL record — setting the tone for a devastating first-half performance.
Manchester United climbed back into second in dramatic fashion, snatching victory with the final kick against Everton, while Chelsea slipped to third after being held by London City Lionesses.
Arsenal continued their strong form with a dominant 5–0 win over West Ham United, extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches and keeping themselves firmly in contention for a top-three finish, with two games in hand.
At the bottom, the pressure continues to build. Leicester City’s struggles deepened with a sixth straight defeat, while Liverpool picked up a valuable point at Brighton & Hove Albion to edge further clear of danger.
With momentum building across the table, Gameweek 18 may prove a defining step in both the title race and the battle for survival.

Arsenal made light work of West Ham United in a commanding 5–0 victory over their London rivals, securing a fourth consecutive win and extending their unbeaten league run to 11 matches. The Gunners now sit just two points behind Chelsea, with two games in hand, firmly intensifying the Champions League qualification race.
It was a completely one-sided contest from the outset, with Arsenal needing just four minutes to take the lead. A whipped delivery from Chloe Kelly drifted beyond everyone and crept in at the far post. Arsenal continued to dominate, and only a superb double save from Kinga Szemik, along with the woodwork, kept the scoreline respectable at the interval.
The goals flowed after the restart. Alessia Russo doubled the lead two minutes into the second half, heading in Holmeberg’s pinpoint cross. Kelly then added Arsenal’s third on 55 minutes with the pick of the goals, shifting the ball onto her left foot outside the box before firing low into the far corner. She completed her hat-trick on 80 minutes after capitalising on a misplaced pass from the West Ham back line, calmly finishing from close range. Beth Mead added the fifth in stoppage time, finishing neatly after a sharp one-two on the edge of the area.
Arsenal are hitting real form at the decisive stage of the season. Should they win their games in hand, they would move to within five points of Manchester City at the top – a scenario that seemed a fantasy just a few months ago. For West Ham, this marked a 12th defeat of the campaign, although results elsewhere meant no significant change at the bottom.

Chelsea saw their title ambitions all but ended as they were held to a 1–1 draw by London City Lionesses, dropping to third place in the table. For the hosts, the result ended a run of three consecutive defeats.
Chelsea started strongly and took a deserved lead on 22 minutes when Johanna Rytting Kaneryd latched onto a precise through ball from Aggie Beever-Jones and finished confidently. Despite dominating the first half, the reigning champions were unable to extend their advantage.
London City emerged after the break with renewed intensity and controlled much of the second half, with Chelsea looking uncharacteristically off the pace. Their pressure was rewarded in the 82nd minute, when Isobel Goodwin reacted quickest inside the area to head home after an initial save from Hannah Hampton, levelling the score to the delight of the home support.
Chelsea offered little response in the closing stages as valuable points slipped away. The result dents their momentum in the title race and raises concerns over their position in the Champions League places, while London City secure a hard-earned point that, at the very least, restores confidence.

Manchester City took another step closer to the WSL title with a commanding 5–2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Academy Stadium. For Spurs, the defeat all but ends their faint hopes of securing Champions League qualification.
City were ferocious from the outset, with Bunny Shaw delivering a performance for the ages. The forward netted the fastest hat-trick in WSL history, scoring three times inside 22 minutes to put the hosts firmly in control. She opened the scoring on 8 minutes, volleying home from close range following a poor clearance from a City corner. Spurs responded seven minutes later through Olivia Holdt, who latched onto a beautifully weighted long ball from Drew Spence and finished confidently.
However, the response was brief as the Shaw show took over. She restored the lead moments later, heading in unchallenged from an Alex Greenwood corner, before completing her hat-trick with a powerful header from a Kerolin cross two minutes later – her 18th league goal of the season.
Kerolin added a fourth, converting Lauren Hemp’s low delivery from close range, before Amanda Nildén turned a Vivianne Miedema header into her own net on the stroke of half-time to cap a devastating first-half display.
Spurs improved after the break and were rewarded late on when Bethany England finished well, but the result was long beyond doubt.
City are three wins away from guaranteeing their first league title in 10 years, but that could come sooner if Arsenal slip up.

Manchester United climbed back into second place in dramatic fashion, securing a 2–1 win with the final kick of the game, just moments after Everton had found a late equaliser. For Everton, the defeat ends their four-match winning run.
United dominated from the outset and took a deserved lead on 38 minutes through Elisabeth Terland, whose determination was rewarded as she finished at the second attempt following a Jess Park cross. It capped a controlled and assured first-half performance from the hosts.
The second half was far more evenly balanced, with both sides posing a threat. However, the contest burst into life in a chaotic finale. Everton looked to have snatched a point in the 90th minute when Inma Gabarro headed superbly from Melissa Lawley’s cross, levelling the score and silencing the home crowd.
However, the drama was far from over. Deep into stoppage time, Melvine Malard produced the defining moment, rising highest to head in from a corner with virtually the last touch of the match and spark wild celebrations.
United’s persistence ultimately made the difference, and Champions League qualification now rests firmly in their hands. Everton, meanwhile, leave gutted at the manner of the defeat.

Brighton & Hove Albion slipped to ninth place after a 0–0 draw against Liverpool, extending their winless run to four matches. For Liverpool, it was a valuable point in their fight to avoid relegation.
In a contest short on clear-cut chances, both sides struggled to find any attacking fluency. Brighton saw more of the ball in the first half but lacked cutting edge in the final third, while Liverpool remained compact and organised defensively.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with neither side able to build sustained pressure. Brighton came closest to breaking the deadlock when they rattled the crossbar, but beyond that moment, neither side truly looked like finding a winner.
Both sides will be relatively satisfied with a point, considering results elsewhere. Liverpool’s recent improvement sees them move four points clear of the bottom, while Brighton continue to drift. Despite their poor run of form, they should have enough to avoid being dragged into trouble.

Leicester City slipped to a sixth consecutive defeat as they were beaten 2–1 by Aston Villa, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table. For Villa, the victory marks a return to winning ways after a difficult run of five league matches without a win.
In an evenly matched first half, it was Leicester who struck first. Alisha Lehmann finished confidently after a well-worked cutback from Hannah Cain left her with only the goalkeeper to beat. It was a rare moment of attacking quality in what has been a difficult period for the Foxes.
However, the game turned early in the second half. Aston Villa responded almost immediately after the restart, with Anna Patten equalising in unusual fashion, her clever backheel from a corner catching everyone off guard and finding its way into the net.
Villa continued to push and were rewarded late on when Kirsty Hanson saw her strike squeeze through Janina Leitzig’s legs after a superb through ball from Ebony Salmon in the 84th minute, completing the turnaround.
For Leicester, the defeat deepens their relegation concerns. They remain three points adrift of West Ham United, albeit with a game in hand, as their losing run continues. Villa, meanwhile, will view this as a significant result in stabilising their season after a difficult spell.
