Wolfsburg secured a dogged 1–0 first-leg victory over OL Lyonnes in their quarter-final. Ending a run of seven straight defeats against the French side and handing Lyonnes their first loss in the competition this season.
After a bright opening spell from the hosts, they took the lead in the 14th minute. Lineth Beerensteyn’s effort from the edge of the box took a deflection, wrong-footing Christiane Endler and finding the net.
Lyonnes grew into the game and, despite dominating possession and chances, could not find a way through. Managing just three shots on target from 19 attempts tells the story of their lack of quality in front of goal.
Wolfsburg, however, remained a threat on the break and should have doubled their lead midway through the first half, but Beerensteyn headed over from a Svenja Huth cross when she should have scored.
Lyonnes continued to dominate in the second half and had clear opportunities through Dumornay, Kadidiatou Diani and Katoto, but none were able to apply the finishing touch.
Wolfsburg take a slender advantage into the second leg, though Lyonnes’ second-half dominance will give them confidence that the tie remains finely balanced.

Arsenal claimed a decisive first-leg advantage over Chelsea in this all-English quarter-final, shaped not only by clinical finishing but also by two major refereeing controversies.
Chelsea started brightly, striking the woodwork twice inside the opening seven minutes. However, it was Arsenal who took the lead on 22 minutes. Stina Blackstenius glanced in a header from a Katie McCabe free-kick. Ten minutes later, Chloe Kelly doubled the advantage with a driven effort from distance that Hannah Hampton will feel she should have handled better.
Chelsea thought they had pulled one back on 40 minutes when Buurman headed home, but the goal was ruled out for a push on Laia Codina – a decision that stood despite replays showing minimal contact.
Lauren James, Chelsea’s most dangerous player throughout, reduced the deficit in the 66th minute with an outrageous strike, curling the ball into the far corner from 25 yards out. No goalkeeper is saving that.
However, Alessia Russo restored Arsenal’s two-goal cushion ten minutes later with a sublime finish of her own. Latching onto a Blackstenius pass, she flicked the ball up in stride before rifling it emphatically into the net. Pure quality, and her eighth UWCL goal of the season, the highest ever by an English player.
Chelsea had the ball in the net again in the 88th minute through Buchanan, but her follow-through forced Borbe into the goal, and the foul, this time, was correctly given.
Arsenal will be delighted to take a two-goal advantage into the second leg, though given Chelsea’s quality, the tie remains far from over.

Bayern Munich Women produced a clinical display to edge past Manchester United Women and take control of the tie heading into the second leg.
It took little time for the visitors to strike, breaking the deadlock early with a sharp attacking move that exposed United’s defence. The hosts responded well, growing into the game and finding an equaliser midway through the first half after sustained pressure.
Bayern, however, remained dangerous in transition and regained the lead before the break, punishing lapses at the back. United refused to fade and levelled once more in the second half, showing determination and attacking intent to keep themselves firmly in contention.
With the game finely poised, Bayern delivered the decisive moment late on, capitalising on another defensive gap to restore their advantage and secure a crucial third goal.
This was an open, end-to-end contest, but Bayern’s efficiency in key moments proved decisive. United showed resilience throughout, yet defensive vulnerabilities ultimately cost them.

Bayern Munich overcame Manchester United in an entertaining encounter at Old Trafford. Clinical finishing proved to be the difference between the two sides.
It took just 97 seconds for the visitors to take the lead, Pernille Harder registering her 22nd goal of the season, latching onto a long-range Arianna Caruso through ball and finishing calmly when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
United levelled on 24 minutes through a Maya Le Tissier penalty after Lea Schüller’s cross was handled in the box by Glódís Viggósdóttir.
The contest remained finely balanced; however, Bayern’s cutting edge proved decisive. Another incisive through ball released Harder, who again finished clinically to restore the lead. United responded quickly, with Hannah Lundkvist heading in Le Tissier’s corner just five minutes later to make it 2–2.
However, with six minutes remaining, Bayern found the winner. Second-half substitute Momoko Tanikawa produced a composed finish from the edge of the box to seal a crucial advantage.
Manchester United will take encouragement from their performance in their first Champions League campaign, but their early defensive lapse may prove costly. The tie remains finely poised ahead of the return leg in Munich.
