UWCL Matchday 2 Round-Up: Bayern Bounce Back, Barça Cruise, Leuven Shock Late

Matchday 2 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) delivered another thrilling round of action –this time, it was all about the late goals.

Three matches were decided by stoppage-time winners, as Bayern, Wolfsburg, and OH Leuven all struck late to claim vital points. Meanwhile, Manchester United held on with ten players in Madrid, Chelsea responded with a commanding win, and Barcelona eased past Roma in another ruthless display.

There were important responses across the board. Bayern bounced back from their Barcelona humiliation, Arsenal earned their first win in Lisbon, and Lyon continued their perfect start – even if they wasted more chances than they’ll want to admit.

Elsewhere, PSG’s struggles deepened with a second straight defeat, Atlético were left frustrated on home soil, and debutants OH Leuven continued to surprise with a stunning late turnaround.

After two rounds, only three sides remain perfect – Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Wolfsburg – but with the new single-league format, the margins remain razor-thin.

Here’s your full round-up of every fixtures, fact, stat and goal from Matchday 2.

UWCL 25/26 Lyonnes 3-0 ST Polten Scorecard

Lyon made it two wins from two in with a dominant 3–0 win over St. Pölten – a scoreline that flattered the visitors.

The hosts registered a staggering 46 attempts at goal, with 15 on target. However, it took until the 28th minute for the breakthrough, when Jule Brand tapped in a low cross from Vicki Becho after a flowing move.

Nevertheless, despite being under siege, St. Pölten nearly found a shock equaliser. Teagan Micah denied Annabel Brunold after she broke clean through on the counter. She should have done better.

Ada Hegerberg made it 2–0 just before half-time, heading home from Elma Junttila-Nelhage’s pinpoint cross.

The moment of the night came in the 51st minute. Lily Yohannes, just 18, picked up the ball near the halfway line and spotted Carina Schlüter off her line. Her audacious 40-yard lob was inch-perfect – a breathtaking goal that lit up the Stadium.

That’s back-to-back wins for Lyon, who sit 4th in the league standings on goal difference – and may come to regret their missed chances with a tough trip to Wolfsburg up next. St. Pölten remain bottom and now prepare to host Chelsea

UWCL 25/26 Valerenga 1-2 Wolfsburg Scorecard

Wolfsburg left it very late to maintain their perfect start in the league phase – snatching a dramatic 2–1 win in stoppage time to break Vålerenga hearts in Oslo.

The first half was closely contested. Wolfsburg dominated possession but created little of note. The breakthrough came in the 57th minute when Saedis Heidarsdottir’s awful back-pass gifted Lineth Beerensteyn a clear run on goal. The Dutch forward drove inside the box and finished coolly.

However, the lead lasted just three minutes. Wolfsburg goalkeeper Enblom mishandled a looping header from a short corner, allowing Sara Hørte to nod in the equaliser at the far post – taking a heavy knock in the process, but thankfully able to continue.

Wolfsburg pushed for a winner but wasted a string of chances in front of goal. Then, in the 94th minute, Vålerenga nearly stole it. Elise Thorsnes found space at the edge of the box and curled a superb strike toward the top corner, only to be denied by a top save from Stina Johannes.

Then, just a minute later, with seconds remaining, VAR halted play spotting a handball in the previous Wolfsburg attack. A penalty was awarded – and Janina Minge made no mistake from the spot. A soft pen to lose last minute to.

Wolfsburg now sit on six points and head to unbeaten Lyon next. Vålerenga, still searching for a point, travel to Roma.

UWCL 25/26 Roma 0-4 Barcelona Scorecard

Barcelona made it two emphatic wins from two with a commanding 4–0 win away at Roma – barely needing to shift out of second gear.

The Spanish champions struck early. Just two minutes in, Esmée Brugts opened the scoring from close range after a loose ball from a headed duel between Paralluelo and Thøgersen fell kindly.

Evelyne Viens broke clean through late in the half, but Cata Coll denied her with a crucial save. Early in the second half, Alexia Putellas squandered a golden chance to double the lead, skying an attempted panenka from the penalty spot after Nazareth was fouled.

But Barça didn’t have to wait long. In the 58th minute, Kika Nazareth made amends, rifling in a half-volley from the edge of the area and put the game to bed.

Putellas found redemption in the 71st, converting a second spot-kick (no fancy fluff this time) after Caroline Graham Hansen was brought down. In the 90th, Graham Hansen added a fourth, finishing into an open net after a pinpoint pass from Clàudia Pina.

Barcelona have now scored 11 goals in two games, conceded just once, and top the early standings. They host OH Leuven next. Roma, on zero points, face Vålerenga next in search of a response.

UWCL 25/26 Chelsea 4-0 Paris FC Scorecard

Chelsea responded to their limp Matchday 1 draw in emphatic fashion, sweeping aside Paris FC with a dominant 4–0 win under the lights at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts set the tone early and piled pressure on the Parisian defence from the opening whistle. The breakthrough came in the 31st minute, when Sjoeke Nüsken was adjudged to have been caught in the area. Replays showed a light step on the foot – soft, but in today’s game, likely a penalty. Sandy Baltimore made no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Then, Chelsea doubled their lead before the break. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd looped in a header from the edge of the box after a driven delivery from Alyssa Thompson fizzed through the area.

The second half began in identical fashion. Within two minutes of the restart, Thompson grabbed her first Chelsea goal – finishing smartly at the back post after a diagonal pass from Keira Walsh found its way across the box.

The fourth came just after the hour mark. A misjudged clearance from the Paris keeper fell straight to Erin Cuthbert, who finished from point‑blank range.

Paris FC rarely threatened. Chelsea dominated possession, and were sharper in every department.

Chelsea move to four points and head to St. Pölten next. Paris FC, on one, host Wolfsburg.

UWCL 25/26 OH Leuven 2-1 FC Twente Scorecard

OH Leuven continued their dream start to life in Europe’s top competition with a stunning late comeback to beat FC Twente 2–1 – securing their first ever UWCL victory in dramatic fashion.

The first half was tense and tactical, with chances limited until the 39th minute. Tuin whipped in a superb low cross, and Ravenbergen met it with a clinical first-time finish to give Twente a deserved lead.

Leuven came alive after the break. They struck the bar in the 68th minute and pushed for an equaliser. Their breakthrough came in the 79th, when VAR pulled play back for a clear handball by Conijnenberg that had initially gone unnoticed. Veefkind stepped up and dispatched the penalty with confidence.

Twente had a golden chance to retake the lead in the 86th, but Ravenbergen, unmarked six yards out, missed the target. In added time, they fired another clear chance over the bar, and Twente paid the price seconds later.

Finally, in the 94th minute, Leuven surged forward one last time. A cutback from the right found Sara Pusztai, who buried the winner with the final kick – sparking wild celebrations and sealing a famous win.

Leuven now sit on four points from two matches, exceeding all expectations. Next up: the toughest test yet – Barcelona away.

Twente, left stunned, travel to face Benfica on Matchday 3.

UWCL 25/26 Atletico Madrid 0-1 Man United Scorecard

Manchester United held on for a hard-earned 1–0 win over Atlético Madrid, maintaining their perfect start to the league phase despite playing with 10 players from the 37th minute.

United started the brighter of the two sides, creating several half chances early on. The breakthrough came in the 24th minute, when Zigiotti Olme’s cross was flicked on by Ella Toone and rifled into the roof of the net by Fridolina Rolfö – United’s only shot on target all night.

The turning point came soon after. Dominique Janssen was initially shown a yellow for a late slide tackle, but following a VAR review, the decision was upgraded to a straight red – a terrible decision. From the resulting free kick, a goalmouth scramble was clawed away brilliantly by Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who produced a string of key saves throughout the night.

Atlético dominated from then on having 18 shots to United’s 10 and 66% possession. But United’s defence – marshalled by Turner and Le Tissier – remained disciplined and compact.

Eventually, the sides were levelled at 10 vs 10 when Alexia was sent off in the 73rd minute for a second booking – a far heavier challenge than Janssen’s.

United will be delighted with the result. They now sit on six points from two matches and host Paris FC next. Atlético stay on three and welcome Juventus.

UWCL 25/26 Benfica 0-2 Arsenal Scorecard

Arsenal picked up their first points of the league phase with a routine 2–0 win over Benfica in Lisbon – not a vintage performance, but exactly the response needed after defeat to Lyon.

After a cagey and relatively uneventful first half, the breakthrough arrived in the 57th minute. Benfica lost possession trying to play out from the back, and a defensive mix-up saw the ball land at the feet of Beth Mead, who, while lying on the turf, managed to prod it past the keeper. A reflection of the scrappy nature of the game.

Benfica showed flashes of intent but lacked cutting edge in the final third. Arsenal’s midfield trio – Caldentey, Cooney-Cross and Little – dictated tempo and kept possession efficiently, denying the hosts any sustained momentum.

The result was sealed in the 89th minute. A smart free-kick routine saw Chloe Kelly disguise her delivery and pick out Alessia Russo, who finished low into the far corner to ensure a comfortable close.

It was a composed, no-frills win for Jonas Eidevall’s side, who rarely looked troubled and now move to three points.

Next up: a far sterner test away to Bayern Munich. Benfica, still without a point, return home to face FC Twente.

UWCL 25/26 Bayern Munic 2-1 Juventus Scorecard

Bayern Munich bounced back from their opening day humiliation in Barcelona with a gritty 2–1 win over Juventus — sealed by a stoppage-time winner.

After their 7–1 collapse at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, Bayern came out with purpose. Pernille Harder opened the scoring in the 11th minute, heading in a near-post cross from Klara Bühl, who tormented Juventus down the left all night. A minute later, Bayern nearly doubled their lead with an almost identical move – this time the header rattling the crossbar.

Nevertheless, Juventus, pinned back early on, struck back in the 17th minute. Eva Schatzer curled in a superb free-kick from the edge of the box – a strike worthy of any highlight reel.

Bayern continued to pepper the Juve goal but it took until the 4th minute of stoppage time for them to find a breakthrough.

In the 94th minute, a cross was headed down and Schüller reacted fastest to turn it towards goal. Officials initially ruled the ball had been cleared off the line, but VAR ruled it had crossed.

Bayern dominated and will be disappointed to have left it so late.

They now host Arsenal on Matchday 3. Juventus, on three points, head to Atlético Madrid.

UWCL 25/26 PSG 1-2 Real Madrid Scorecard

Real Madrid claimed a vital away win at the Parc des Princes, edging PSG 2–1 to maintain their perfect start to the league phase.

PSG started the brighter of the two sides, and Madrid suffered an early blow when goalkeeper Merle Frohms was forced off injured in the 16th minute. But it was the visitors who struck first. In the 26th minute, Naomie Feller turned in a pinpoint cross from Yasmim to give Real the lead against the run of play.

Madrid doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time. Alba Redondo reacted quickest after Mary Earps made a smart initial save, steering in the rebound to stun the home crowd.

PSG pulled one back just before the hour mark. In the 57th minute, Rasheedat Ajibade rose highest to head in a sublime deep cross from Sakina Karchaoui, giving the hosts renewed belief.

They pushed hard in the final half hour but lacked sharpness in the final third. Real Madrid, compact and well-organised, held firm to see out the result and take a crucial three points from Paris.

With six points from two games, Real now prepare to face winless Paris FC in Madrid.

PSG, still without a point, travel to face Manchester United – knowing another defeat could leave their campaign on the brink.
