Terland hat-trick sees Man United progress in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying

Manchester United swept aside PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League second qualifying round. The win in Stockholm’s 3Arena keeps alive their push for a first group-stage appearance. With a hat-trick from Elisabeth Terland and creativity from Ella Toone, United delivered a dominant performance from start to finish.

United struck early. In the seventh minute, Lisa Naalsund pressed high to win the ball just outside the PSV box. She passed to Terland, who finished calmly into the bottom corner.

The pressure continued. In the 32nd minute, Celin Bizet reacted fastest when Toone’s shot was parried, smashing home from close range. As a result, United went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

After the break, United stayed in control. Six minutes into the second half, Terland doubled her tally with a neat finish from Toone’s clever pass. Moreover, she completed her treble in the 63rd minute, cutting through PSV’s defence before slotting past the keeper.

Debutant Julia Zigiotti Olme impressed as well. She added drive in midfield, rattled the post in the first half, and kept PSV under constant pressure. Overall, United pressed high, dominated midfield, and left their opponents chasing shadows.

On Saturday, United face either Hammarby or Metalist Kharkiv. A win would send them into September’s two-legged play-off, the final hurdle for a place in the expanded UEFA Women’s Champions League league phase.
