Arsenal’s Taylor Hinds has switched her international allegiance to the England Lionesses, despite already earning a senior cap for Jamaica.
The 26-year-old full-back joins Sarina Wiegman’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Brazil (Sat 25 Oct, Etihad Stadium) and Australia (Tue 28 Oct, Pride Park).
Hinds represented England at U17, U19, and U23 levels. However, she was eligible for Jamaica through her heritage and made one senior appearance for the Reggae Girlz – a friendly against France in October 2024. Since that match was not competitive, she remained eligible to play for England.
Also earning their first senior call-ups are 19-year-old centre-back Katie Reid (Arsenal) and Aston Villa midfielder Lucia Kendall. Wiegman is using the games to start a new cycle after England’s UEFA Euro 2025 triumph this summer.
A new chapter for the Lionesses
This will be the first time the Lionesses reconvene since lifting the European Championship trophy in Switzerland.
The squad announcement comes in the same week Millie Bright confirmed her retirement from international football.
The 33-year-old Chelsea defender earned 88 caps for England, scoring six goals and captaining the Lionesses to two Arnold Clark Cup titles (2022, 2023), Euro 2022 victory, and a World Cup runners-up finish in 2023. A legend that will be missed on the international stage.

No more flip-flopping for Hinds
Hinds has played just 46 minutes across six WSL matches for Arsenal this season, but Wiegman insists her call-up is based on merit. “She hasn’t played that much for Arsenal, but we’re in a new situation,” said Wiegman. “She’s a left-footer with strong positional awareness and great game understanding — qualities we want to explore.”
At first glance, it may seem unusual for a player with a senior cap to switch national teams, but FIFA’s eligibility rules allow a one-time national team change under specific conditions:
- The player must hold citizenship of the new country.
- They must not have played a competitive senior match for another nation.
Once approved by FIFA, the decision is permanent – a player cannot revert again. The FA and Wiegman have emphasised that Hinds’ inclusion is based on merit and positional need, not convenience.
