Georgia Stanway will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the 2025–26 season, bringing a four-year spell in Germany to a close. The club confirmed on 10 January that the 27-year-old midfielder has decided not to renew her contract, opening the door to a new chapter after arriving in Munich from Manchester City in 2022.
First English signing for the Bavarian giants

When Stanway joined Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, she did so as the club’s first English women’s signing, fresh from captaining City to League Cup glory against Chelsea and England’s Euro 2022 triumph. It was a move that raised eyebrows at the time. English internationals did not often leave the WSL at their peak. Stanway did.
What followed was historic. Bayern won three consecutive Frauen-Bundesliga titles, the first such run in the club’s history, decisively shifting the balance of power away from Wolfsburg with Stanway central to their success.
The complete midfielder

Stanway is a proper box-to-box No.8. Described by former manager Gareth Taylor as having the energy of a “wind-up toy”, she covers ground relentlessly, presses hard, and does the running that lets others play. She tackles, creates and still scores. Her 126 senior career goals show she would be an asset for any top side.
Seventeen major honours and counting…

Across an 11-year senior career, Stanway has built a trophy cabinet that reflects consistency as much as brilliance.

Nothing is confirmed…. yet. But a return to the WSL is widely expected. Arsenal are reported to be front-runners, with a pre-contract possible this month. Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are also rumoured to be monitoring the situation.
Wherever she ends up, the impact will be immediate and significant.
