Switzerland kept their Euro 2025 campaign firmly on track with a composed 2-0 victory over Iceland in Bern on Sunday night, sending a packed Stadion Wankdorf into celebration and moving the tournament hosts within touching distance of the knockout rounds.
After a cagey, goalless first half where chances were at a premium, Switzerland found their breakthrough in the 76th minute. Sydney Schertenleib’s clever work down the flank unlocked the Icelandic defence, teeing up Géraldine Reuteler to coolly slot home and ignite the home support. Iceland, already under pressure to keep slim hopes alive, struggled to respond with any real threat.
As the game ticked into added time, Switzerland put it beyond doubt. Substitute Alayah Pilgrim latched onto a neat flick from Leila Wandeler on the edge of the box and guided her low shot past Cecilia Rúnarsdóttir, sealing a result that felt deserved for a side that had steadily turned the screw throughout the second half.

What’s next
The win puts Switzerland firmly in the driving seat for qualification, with a point against Finland on Thursday enough to see them through – though coach Pia Sundhage may be keen to keep momentum high with another assured display.
For Iceland, however, it spells the end of their tournament — extending a frustrating Euros run that has yet to yield a single finals victory or goal. Their last clash with Norway offers only pride to play for.
On a night when nerves could easily have tightened, Switzerland showed patience, quality and ultimately the cutting edge required to keep their home tournament alive — and with the knockout rounds now in clear sight, belief will only grow.
