Italy booked their place in the UEFA Women’s Euros 2025 semi-finals with a last minute win against Norway in Geneva on Wednesday – only their 2nd win of the tournament so far. It ended a 28-year wait for a semi-final place, extending their tournament into uncharted territory. The atmosphere at Stade de Genève was electric as Italy’s veteran forward delivered moments of pure magic to secure the win.
Italy struck first in the 50th minute thanks to Cristiana Girelli guiding in a pinpoint cross by Cantore from inside the six yard box. Norway, equalised in the 66th minute when captain Ada Hegerberg (who missed a penalty in the 60th) coolly finished after being sent through with a 40 yard through ball by centre back Mjelda.
As the game entered the final minute, Girelli rose beautifully at the far post to power in a dramatic headed winner that sparked pandemonium in the stadium. Arrivedecci, Norway, El Capitano the hero.
