Spain made it three wins from three at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, overcoming Italy 3-1 in Bern to top Group B with maximum points. The result leaves Italy breathing a sigh of relief — despite defeat, Portugal’s loss to Belgium means the Azzurre made it through to the quarter-finals.
In the 10th minute, Italy stunned the crowd at Stadion Wankdorf — Elisabetta Oliviero pounced on a loose ball from a clumsy clearance to fire past the keeper, giving the Azzurre an early lead.
Spain responded in swift fashion. In the 14th minute, Athenea del Castillo curled home a superb equaliser from the edge of the box after linking cleverly with Alexia Putellas.
The second half saw Spain stamp their authority. Just after the break, Patri Guijarro smashed in a long-range half-volley in the 49th minute to put La Roja ahead. As Italy pressed, Spain struck again — Esther González sealed the result in stoppage time, slotting in after a loose ball to make it 3-1.
Spain finish Group B unbeaten with nine points and stride into the quarter-finals to face hosts Switzerland. 14 goals in 3 games show why they’re title favourites.
Italy, meanwhile, advance as Group B runners-up on four points — a boost secured thanks to Portugal’s 2-1 loss to Belgium.
