Germany bounced back from a slow start to secure a 2‑1 victory over Denmark in Basel, earning their place in the UEFA Women’s Euros 2025 quarter-finals with a game to spare.
At St. Jakob‑Park, strong travelling German fans created a near-home atmosphere, while Denmark arrived needing a bounce-back after losing to Sweden in their opener.
Denmark stunned the German crowd when Amalie Vangsgaard pounced on a loose ball to give the underdogs a 1‑0 lead in the 26th minute. Germany responded sharply, with Sjoeke Nüsken converting a soft VAR-awarded penalty on 56 minutes (following a foul on Linda Dallmann) to level terms.
Just ten minutes later, Lea Schüller capitalised on play continuing despite a head injury to Denmark’s Emma Snerle, sweeping home the rebound for a 2‑1 lead in the 66th minute. Denmark pressed hard late on, but Germany’s game management and defensive composure held firm.
