We’ve all been stuck in the car after a terrible away result, wondering why we put ourselves through the pain of those long away day trips.
Whilst we all know the real answer to that (GO FOOTBALL!), it got us thinking: who are the away day heroes in the WSL and WC? Which fans are home in time for Britain’s Got Talent, and who’s sitting up watching QVC at 1am wired because they ate too many Haribo in the car on the way home?

So, does the distance travelled in any way impact the performance of the teams?
I really wanted it to, if only to justify the three hours I spent on Google maps adding these up, but the answer is a resounding no.
The average league position of the top ten teams with the most miles in the tank at the point of this article going live was 6th. The bottom ten, 7th.
It’s incredible to think that collectively across the two major leagues in the UK the total distance travelled for all games throughout a single season is 74,432 miles. Thats a lot of service station Macca’s.
